HIRSUTISM

WHAT IS HIRSUTISM?

Hirsutism is where women have thick, dark hairs on their face, neck, chest, tummy, forearms, backs of thighs and bum. When women have this condition, it can really affect their confidence.

CAUSES OF HIRSUTISM

Hirsutism is manly caused by a hormonal imbalance due to PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, medications, pregnancy, menopause, severe weight gain or weight loss. All of these factors affect a women's hormone balance and causes the body to want to protect its self (on the outside by making new follicles) this will continue to happen until the hormones start to balance themselves out. Many women through pregnancy will notice that their hair growth has increased, and then as soon as they have given birth and breast fed, their hair growth would have improved.

PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that affects a women's hormone levels. Women with PCOS produce higher than normal amounts of male hormones called androgens. These hormones can affect hair growth, weight, and skin.

PCOS affects 1/10 women globally, and it is believed that around 70% of women may suffer with PCOS but sometimes it is not diagnosed.

TREATING HORMONAL IMBALANCES AND PCOS WITH LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal works best on dark, coarse hairs, anyone that has a hormonal imbalance will see a great reduction in the hair growth after a course of laser hair removal. Due to the hormone imbalance, new follicles will always continue to grow. After a laser treatment, maintenance treatments will always be required to keep the hair growth under control. We aim to get the maintenance treatments down to once every 3-6 months... some clients don't need maintenance for 12-18 months. Everyone is different, and all hair growth will be monitored at each appointment
